Cubs News: Former CY Young Award winner dies in plane crash

by - Senior Editor -

Former two-time CY Young Award winner Roy Halladay has died in a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico on Tuesday afternoon. He was just 40 years old.

Halladay was an eight-time All-Star pitcher for the Blue Jays and Phillies. He is survived by his wife Brandy and his two children.

Hopefully, Halladay will be a first-ballot Hall-of-Famer when he gets his chance to be inducted posthumously in a few years.

The Phillies released a statement on Roy Halladay's death after the news was confirmed.

"We are numb over the very tragic news about Roy Halladay's untimely death. There are no words to describe the sadness that the entire Phillies family is feeling over the loss of one of the most respected human beings to ever play the game. It is with the heaviest of hearts that we pass along on condolences to Brandy, Ryan, and Braden."

CubsHQ.com would like to give our most heartfelt sympathies to the friends and family members of Roy Halladay.
