Former Chicago Cubs manager Don Baylor has passed away from his battle with bone marrow cancer early Monday morning at 4:25 a.m. Baylor fought multiple myeloma for 14 years but has passed away at the age of 68.

"Don passed from this earth with the same fierce dignity with which he played the game and lived his life," his wife, Rebecca, said in a statement.

Baylor managed the Chicago Cubs from 2000-2002 and had a record of 187-220 for the North Siders.

Baylor played 19 seasons in the major leagues and hit .260 with 338 homers and 1,276 RBI. During his time as a player, he played with the following American league teams -- Orioles, Athletics, Angels, Yankees, Red Sox, Twins, and Athletics.

He was an All-Star and American League MVP in 1979 with the Angels as well as a World Series Champion with the Twins in 1987 and won the Silver Slugger award three times (1983, 1985, 1986).

He was the first African-American to play sports at Texas.

CubsHQ would like to give our condolences to his entire family including his wife Rebecca and his son Don Jr.
