Cubs News: Fowler on Maddon's comments: "It's a breath of fresh air"

Veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler and the Cardinals management are not getting along in case you have been living under a rock.

Cardinals executive John Mozeliak threw Fowler under the bus in a recent Fox Sports interview.

"It's been a frustrating year for everybody involved," Mozeliak said. "Here's a guy who wants to go out and play well. I think he would tell you it's hard to do that when you're not playing on a consistent basis. But I've also had a lot of people come up to me and question his effort and his energy level. You know, those are things that I can't defend."

I love Dexter," Maddon said recently to the media. "He is effervescent. He is gregarious. He always lit up the room when he walked in. That is how I see Dex. He and I had great conversations all the time. I don't have any idea what is going on there in St. Louis. I just know my personal relationship with him is outstanding."

Fowler heard about Maddon's uplifting comments and expressed his sincere thanks to his former mentor.

"It was awesome to see that," Fowler said Sunday at AT&T Park via the Chicago Tribune. "I thank him very much. It’s a breath of fresh air."

Fowler spoke to 670 The Score on Tuesday and had the following comments about Maddon.

"Joe and Davey (Martinez) are different than any coaches I ever had," Fowler said. "Obviously, they are a ton more laid-back. You do have to adapt to every situation."

Fowler is batting .167 with six homers and 25 RBIs this season including a grand slam last night.
