Cubs News: Hickey updates rehab status of Yu Darvish

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs are patiently waiting for the return of their injured starter Yu Darvish.

Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey was on the Mully & Haugh Show on 670 The Score on Wednesday and talked about the rehab schedule for Darvish.

"I thought he threw the ball well also," Hickey said. "I think he was up to 93 miles per hour in terms of the fastball velocity, which was really good because it's that's not on adrenale in a 9:45 a.m. type of situation. So that's a good sign. He also used all the breaking balls. The next step is simply to see how he feels today coming in. I would anticipate him feeling OK and then probably throw a bullpen tomorrow. And if all goes OK and he recovers OK, which I do anticipate, he'll probably be off to a rehab assignment next.

"In a perfect world -- I believe today's the 15th (of August) -- so if he threw his simulated game on the 14th, he'd be eligible to pitch on the 19th, this is in a perfect world now, the 24th and the 29th. And there you go. He'd be ready at the beginning of September if all went well."

All signs were positive during his 50-pitch simulated game on Tuesday at Wrigley Field.

Darvish is 1-3 with a 4.95 ERA this season.
