by - Senior Editor -

'El Mago' will try to bring some of his magic in the leadoff position during the 2018 All-Star game on Tuesday night.

Javy Beaz has been impressive this season batting .292 with 19 homers, 72 RBIs, 18 stolen bases, and a .892 OPS.

David Roberts spoke to reporters about his lineup on Monday and the decision to bat Baez at the top of the order.

"I like Javy," he said. "I like the energy."

Baez is the second MLB player in history alongside Willie Mays to have 18+ doubles, 18+ homers, 18+ steals and 5+ triples before the All-star break.

His teammates Willson Contreras will be batting ninth for the National League.

Baez will be busy during the two-day event as he is also in the home run derby at 8 pm ET on Monday night.
