Cubs News: Javy Baez wants to participate in 2018 Home Run Derby

by - Senior Editor -

"El Mago' wants to show what new tricks he has up his sleeve.

25-year old Baez would accept an invitation to showcase his home run power for the upcoming 2018 Home Run Derby.

"I’d love to be in it for sure," Baez told reporters on Saturday.

Teammates Anthony Rizzo and Kris Bryant have stated publicly in past interviews that they would decline a future invite to the event since it takes such a physical toll on the body, not to mention it can really mess with your swing.

However, it wouldn't really disrupt Baez's approach because he swings for the fences on most pitches anyways.

Baez said he wasn't worried about any fatigue from participating in the prestigious event.

"I’m young,” he said. "I can do that."

For the season, Baez is hitting .255 with 14 home runs and 46 RBIs.

The 2018 Home Run Derby and All-Star game will be on July 16-17 at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C.
