Cubs News: Jon Lester headed to the 10-day DL

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs ace Jon Lester gave up nine runs in the second inning on Thursday afternoon against the Reds. He threw 40 pitches during the inning and motioned to the trainers that something was wrong after giving up a RBI double to Eugenio Suarez. It was the 11th batter of the inning and he walked off the field.

The Cubs announced after Thursday's game that Lester is being evaluated for left lat tightness and went to Northwestern to get checked out by Dr. Gryzlo.

On Friday, multiple reports are saying that the Cubs are encouraged by the medical report on Lester, and will be on the 10-day disabled list with general shoulder fatigue.

Lester should be back before the end of the regular season and OK if the Cubs make the playoffs. Look for the Cubs to call up a reliever on Friday to take Lester's roster spot.

In 2017, Lester has an 8-7 record with 4.37 ERA with 155 strikeouts and a 1.27 WHIP.
