Cubs News: Jon Lester nominated for 2018 Roberto Clemente Award |
Cubs veteran pitcher
Jon Lester was the Cubs' nominee for the 2018 Roberto Clemente Award on Tuesday which is an annual recognition of a player who best represents Baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on & off the field.
Lester is part of several charities and raised 555K for pediatric cancer research for his NVRQT goes Country event in June. His teammate Anthony Rizzo won the award last season and became the third Cubs player to win the prestigious hardware with Sammy Sosa (1998) and Rick Sutcliffe (1987). Interestingly, Cole Hamels is the Texas Rangers' nominee even though he is a member of the North Siders. Tonight's #NVRQT Goes Country raised $555K for pediatric cancer research.
