Cubs News: Kris Bryant injury update

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs standout third baseman Kris Bryant was eligible to be activated from the 10-day disabled list with his right shoulder inflammation injury on Tuesday. However, he is still on the injury list as of Friday afternoon.

Cubs President of Operations Theo Epstein spoke to the media on various topics before Friday's game including giving a quick update on the status of their standout third baseman.

"He (Bryant) had a real good day today in the cage, so we’re going to get together and see what that means, see whether he wants or needs a rehab assignment or not, just to test it in a game situation before he comes back, Epstein said via The Athletic.

Bryant recently told reporters that he hurt his shoulder on a head-first slide more than a month ago.

"I didn’t think anything of it,” Bryant said about the slide. “Maybe I tried to play through it and came back too quick. It got better. Nothing debilitating, but just swinging more stuff like that is likely to flare up, and that’s what it did.”

For the season, Bryant is batting .280 with 20 doubles, three triples, nine homers and 36 RBI in 66 games this season.

In other Cubs injury news, Epstein told reporters that starter Yu Darvish has no timetable for his return.

"We're not going to set any timetables until he moves from the strengthening phase to the throwing phase."
