Cubs News: Kris Bryant injury update

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs placed third baseman Kris Bryant on the 10-day disabled list retroactive active to July 24 with left shoulder inflammation.

This will be his second career stint on the disabled list.

Bryant had missed the last two games, and the latest from Cubs reporter Kelly Crull is that the team will conduct another MRI to make sure they didn't miss any other issues besides the inflammation.

"Cubs Bryant tried to manage soreness in left shoulder, but wasn't seeing improvement to where it was going away," Crull posted. "KB will have another MRI to make sure nothing was missed 1st time. Then doctors will put a plan into place--no return timetable."

Even Cubs manager Joe Maddon to reporters on Wednesday didn't sound that optimistic about Bryant's injury.

"For right now, it's just trying to manage it and get him through the season and hopefully participates. But I don't know what the offseason would hold," he said.

For the season, Bryant is batting .276 with 11 homers and 44 RBIs. Since returning from the DL, he is batting .250 with two homers and 8 RBIs.
