Cubs News: Kris Bryant injury update

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — After getting hit squarely on the wrist by a 95-mile-per-hour fastball in the fourth inning of the Chicago Cubs-Pittsburgh Pirates matchup on Tuesday, Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant was forced to leave the game. Despite his best efforts to remain in the game, Bryant was eventually pulled in the sixth frame.

An inside pitch from Pirates pitcher Chris Archer drilled Bryant in the wrist, with Bryant showing visible pain after getting beamed. Following Bryant's departure from the contest, the Cubs announced that the 2016 National League MVP had suffered a left wrist contusion.

Bryant has experienced an injury-plagued season this year. There is no word yet as to how much time, if any, this latest ailment will force him to miss. X-rays came back negative on Bryant's wrist. However, in his postgame remarks, Cubs manager Joe Maddon implied to reporters that Bryant is likely to miss at least one game.
