Kris Bryant ranked Top 3 player in MLB

by - Senior Editor -

Many think Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant had a down year last season.

However, he finished in seventh place in the NL MVP voting with a first-place vote and a third place vote with 132 total points.

In 2017, Bryant batted .295 with 29 homers, 73 RBI, and .409 on-base percentage. He was fifth in the league with 111 runs, third in walks (95), and seventh in OPS (.946). Most major leaguers dream of this kind of season at the professional level.

SI.com released its top ten players for the 2018 season and Bryant was ranked No. 3 overall behind only Mike Trout and Jose Altuve.

"Here is how good Kris Bryant is. Last season, he hit .295/.409/.537 in 665 plate appearances, homering 29 times, posting a 143 OPS+, and racking up 6.1 WAR," SI.com said. "With the exception of a dip in homers and WAR, those numbers were almost bang on, if not better than, what he did in his MVP-winning 2016 campaign. And yet when it came time to hand out the National League hardware, Bryant finished a distant seventh in the MVP voting."

In MLB Network's player ranking released recently, Bryant was ranked No. 8 overall.

Bryant has had a more relaxing offseason than after the 2016 World Series and should be ready for a monster 2018 season and another MVP type year. Watch out National League if Bryant, Rizzo, and the rest of the lineup start smashing the baseball early and often.
