Cubs News: Kyle Schwarber on his team's offensive explosion

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber smacked two homers during a 10-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians in the first meeting since the 2016 World Series.

Schwarber spoke to the media following the game and said that this team has enough pieces offensively to help each other regardless if a player or two has an off week or two.

"Once you step foot in here, you kinda go back a little bit and remember what that feeling was like, and once we stepped on that field, it was game time," he said. "We have a lot of talent on this team. The way we all go out there and play is like we are all going to pick each other up. It doesn't matter if Rizzo has to be hot all the time or Kris has to be hot all the time. There are always going to be guys that can do that job. I know I get the frustration and everything like that. We all know that Rizzo is going to be where he needs to be at the end of the year. We all know that if I start slumping or whatever, the team is going to pick me up. That's what this team is all about."

For the season, Scharber is batting .302 with six homers, 16 RBIs, and an impressive 1.048 OPS.

Schwarber is excited about the improvement he can do this season.

"I always thought this was a good park to hit in," Schwarber said. "It's been a good start so far. Always trying to get better. Had a guy on third with less than two outs and didn't get him in. That's a free RBI there. And I want to pick those up."

In the last five games, the Cubs have scored 45 runs on 66 hits.
