Last minute travel deals for Cubs fans

by - Correspondent -

The Cubs are coming up on their season-ending series against the Reds, beginning next weekend on Friday, September 29th. There are plenty of deals still available on airfare to get you to Chicago in time for a possible playoff-clinching win.

As always, going out of Atlanta is very affordable if you live in the Southeast and don’t mind making the early drive to the airport. Right now, you can fly out of ATL on Friday the 29th at 6:40 am for $88 (plus additional baggage fees) on Spirit. You’ll arrive in Chicago at 7:50, giving you plenty of time to drop off your bags at your hotel and make it to the game. Return on Monday or later to get this rate.

Orlando is another Southeastern city with a good rate to Chicago right now. You can fly round-trip on Frontier for $85, but this rate is only available if you fly up Thursday evening at 5:25 pm and return early Tuesday morning. You’ll have Thursday night to get settled in and be ready for the game the next day. This is also a great option if you want to do a bit of sight-seeing in Chicago after the series is over.

For Cubs fans out west, there is a decent fare out of Las Vegas on Frontier for $97. You can fly out of Las Vegas at 10:45 pm on Thursday night and arrive at O’Hare at 4:18 am Chicago time on Friday. This is definitely not the most convenient flight considering the time of day, but it’s a great deal. Return Monday or Tuesday to get this rate.

A similar fare is available from Los Angeles for $118 on Frontier, and there are a couple options as far as what day you fly out. You can fly out Thursday or Friday and return either Tuesday or Wednesday to get this rate. The Friday flight, however, does not leave until later in the evening, so you would not be able to catch the Friday game.

There is a $91 fare from New York on Spirit Airline if you leave Friday, but you would not make it to the game that day. For $113, however, you can fly out of LaGuardia on Thursday at 1:30 pm on American Airline. This is honestly a better deal because of all the extra fees you would have encountered on Spirit. Spend Monday seeing the city, and return on Tuesday morning for this rate.

Other Notably Low Fares (that will allow you to see all three games):

From Boston: For $97 on Spirit Airlines. Depart on Thursday at 1:30 pm. Return on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

From Houston: For $84 on United. Depart on Friday at 5:15 am. Return on Tuesday or Wednesday.

From Washington D.C.: For $125 on Spirit. Depart on Friday at 6 am. Return on Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday.

From Denver: For $138 on Spirit. Depart on Thursday at 1:18 pm. Return on Monday.

Airfare rates change quickly, so if you see a rate that works for you, it is best to act quick.

These deals can be found by typing your flight destination at google.com/flights.
