Cubs News: Lester, Hendricks finish 2nd and 3rd in CY Young Award

Nationals starting pitcher Matt Scherzer was named on Wednesday as the 2016 National League CY Young Award winner by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Cubs pitcher Jon Lester finished second for the prestigious award and received one out of 30 first-place votes. He had the second-lowest ERA in the league this past season at 2.44 and posted a quality start in all of his 15 starts at Wrigley Field this season. In 2016, Lester was 19-5 with a 2.44 ERA with 190 strikeouts and a 1.02 WHIP.

Kyle Hendricks finished third for the award and received two out of 30 first-place votes. He was the first Cubs pitcher to lead the major leagues in ERA since Bill Lee in 1938 according to ESPN Stats. He also had an incredible 1.32 ERA at Wrigley Field which was the second-lowest ERA in Cubs history.

He was 16-8 with 2.13 ERA with 170 strikeouts with a 0.98 WHIP this season. For his career, he has an impressive 2.92 ERA with a 31-17 record with 384 strikeouts and a 1.07 WHIP.

"I definitely wasn't expecting this at the start of the year," Hendricks said during an interview on Wednesday night on the MLB Network.

Also, Cubs pitcher Jake Arrieta finished 9th in the voting.

Jon Lester - 1 first place vote with 102 total points

Kyle Hendricks - 2 first place votes with 85 total points
