Cubs News: Lester: "Whoever says solo homers can't beat you is full of sh**"

by - Senior Editor -

Cubs veteran starter Jon Lester was handed his first loss of the season in a 4-1 defeat against the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.

During the contest, Lester gave up three solo homers but pitched well overall going seven innings giving up only four hits, two walks, and four strikeouts. He is the first Cubs pitcher to throw into the seventh inning through the first 21 games this season.

Lester was his usual honest self about his assessment of his pitching performance against the Tribe and last season.

"It's like I struggled," Lester told the media during postgame interviews. "Whoever says solo homers can't beat you is full of sh**. Maybe I get the ball to righties a little more consistently this year. Last year it was like hammering my head on the wall trying to figure out why I couldn't get my ball into righties. Just seems like the ball would come back even my cutter. My cutter wouldn't cut, it would just come back to the plate. Things have been better; balls have been staying a little truer out there."

For the season, Lester holds a 2-1 record with a 3.29 ERA with 1.21 WHIP.
