Lester to MLB players: Scrub your Twitter accounts

by - Senior Editor -

Social media can be a great thing, and it also can be your worst enemy.

All-Star pitcher Josh Hader moments after his All-Star appearance had to apologize for his past racist and homophobic tweets that he posted several years ago.

Now, Braves pitcher Sean Newcomb is under fire for some racist and homophobic posts he posted when he was an 18-year old in high school.

Since the Twitter messages were found, Newcomb offered an apology, and the Braves released a statement how they will work with Sean to 'mend the wounds' of their community.

Cubs veteran pitcher Jon Lester has a simple idea for major league players that use Twitter.

"If you’re on Twitter, please spend the 5 minutes it takes to scrub your account of anything you wouldn’t want plastered next to your face on the front page of a newspaper," Lester posted. "Better yet, don’t say stupid things in the first place. Too many young guys getting burned."

Lester thinks that the two young pitchers made a mistake but are decent guys.

"Listen I’m far from the sharpest tool in the shed, and there’s certainly no halo above my head (pardon the rhyme) but I know some of these guys are great dudes who just had lapses in judgment."
