MLB reduces Willson Contreras' suspension

by - Senior Editor -

Major league baseball has reduced Willson Contreras' two-game suspension to only one-game after his appeal according to multiple reports.

Contreras will serve his suspension for today's game as Alex Avila will take his place at catcher and will bat cleanup. The Cubs will let Contreras rest mentally and physically as they prepare him for the team's upcoming important ten game road-trip.

During Friday's game in the fifth inning, an apparent strike three call should have ended the inning as Carlos Martinez was already walking back from the batter's box to the dugout, but the pitch was called a ball. Of course, Martinez hit a RBI single on the next pitch, and the Cubs went bonkers especially Lackey and Contreras.

Lackey obviously argued, and Contreras threw his catcher's mask on the ground near the umpire as he was upset by the turn of events in the ballgame.

Since then, Contreras has already apologized to his teammates, fans, and the umpires during Saturday's game.

In 2017, Contreras is batting .279 with 21 homers, 73 RBI, and .355 on-base percentage.
