Machado reportedly would consider signing with Cubs before a trade

by - Senior Editor -

The rumor mill is full steam ahead for one of the game's elite players.

Robert Murray of FRS Baseball is reporting that the Cubs appear to be the front-runner for Manny Machado if the Orioles decide to trade the superstar before the trade deadline.

"In the odd chance they do trade Machado, the team I’d watch for is the Chicago Cubs," Murray wrote. "One person close to Machado believes if there was a team he’d consider re-signing with before hitting free agency, it’s the Cubs."

His attraction with the Cubs more than likely comes from possibly reuniting and playing with this childhood buddy Albert Almora Jr.

Machado is having an impressive offensive season batting .305 with 18 homers (5th in AL), 53 RBIs (3rd in AL), and .373 on-base percentage.

With Addison Russell playing much better in the last month, the urgency to pull off a blockbuster trade for Machado doesn't seem to be as crucial anymore for the Cubs. The team would be advised to look for pitching help if Darvish doesn't come back healthy and to his old pitching self soon.
