Cubs News: Maddon apologizes to umpire: "I went too far"

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs manager Joe Maddon was ejected in the eighth inning of the heartbreaking 4-3 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers on Monday afternoon.

Maddon argued the strike zone during a tough inning with Carl Edwards Jr. and let home plate umpire Gabe Morales have a piece of his mind before being kicked out of the game.

During an interview with Berstein & McKnight Show on Tuesday, Maddon shared that he apologized to the umpire.

"I went too far, and I actually did text Mr. Torre last night and told him that I wanted to apologize to Gabe because I did go go over the top -- that he was right and I was wrong and that I probably should've gotten out of that argument sooner," he said.

Maddon didn't wanna wait too long to let Morales know that he felt bad about the situation.

"When I think I've gone too far, I try to be proactive and let them know that I screwed up," he said. "And I thought I did yesterday. Retrospectively, I didn't like what I did and how I did it. So I'm not just going to wait for the letter. And there are times I'll just wait for the letter because I knew I reacted properly. So yesterday I thought I was improper, so I wanted Mr. Torre to know that in advance."
