Cubs News: Maddon explains why Morrow didn't pitch in save opportunity

by - Senior Editor -

The Cubs lost 4-3 to the Dodgers on Tuesday afternoon at Wrigley Field.

In the ninth inning, Kyle Farmer hit the go-ahead double on his final strike off of reliever Justin Wilson to put the Dodgers up 4-3.

Brandon Morrow did not pitch the ninth inning and has not pitched since June 7.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon said during postgame that Morrow had his back tighten up yesterday on him.

"His back tightened up on him so we wanted to be very cautionary and that's why I had to use the bullpen the way that I did. That's why (Pedro) Stroppy went two innings and that's it," he said.

Maddon didn't share this information with the media before the game because he didn't want the Dodgers to know the lack of bullpen depth. Morrow will also be out for tonight's second game of the doubleheader.
