Cubs News: Maddon gives disappointing news on Bryant's shoulder

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs star third baseman Kris Bryant sat out Tuesday night's loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks and will also miss today's game.

Bryant was activated off of the 10-day disabled list with his left shoulder inflammation on July 11. It was his first career stint on the disabled list and has missed 16 games already this season.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon spoke with the media before tonight's game and had some discouraging news about Bryant's inflammation in his shoulder.

"He's a little bit sore and I have to be proactive with that," Maddon said. "I want to be sure we're not pushing him too hard right now."

Maddon knows that rest would be ideal right now for him but the Cubs are currently in the middle of the season.

"Obviously rest would be the best thing for it right now, but we're not necessarily ready to do that," he said. "I'll try to find out more specifically. But I don't know what the actual postseason method would be if we're actually getting close to that. For right now, it's just trying to manage it and get him through the season and hopefully participates. But I don't know what the offseason would hold."

This doesn't sound good at all as the pain must not have gone down much with the DL time. Hopefully, he will be back in the lineup shortly.

Maddon said the following before Wednesday's game about a possible DL stint with Bryant.

"I can't say that it's impossible. Everything's in play," he said.

For the season, Bryant is batting .276 with 11 homers and 44 RBIs. Since returning from the DL, he is batting .250 with two homers and 8 RBIs.
