Cubs News: Maddon on Lackey's ejection: "It's who Johnny is"

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs won 8-2 despite two of their players John Lackey and Willson Contreras were ejected from the ballgame for arguing balls and strikes.

Lackey was livid after not getting an obvious strike-three call and then one pitch later gave up the RBI single by Carlos Martinez and then Lester went off on the home plate umpire and was consequently tossed.

Maddon said after Friday's game that it was really impossible for Lackey to stay composed after the circumstances and his fiery nature according to reporter Sahadev Sharma.

"Impossible. I could say I would like to see that, but why would I even think that? That's the definition of insanity. Why would I think that he's going to change in that particular moment? God bless him. It's who Johnny is, I never want him to change. He's not going to change. So why even expect that. It happened, we reacted and the rest of the group came together.
