Cubs News: Maddon on pulling Darvish after dealing with leg issue

by - Senior Editor -

The return of Yu Darvish was a mixed bag on Tuesday night as he pitched decent but was pulled after just four innings against the Braves.

Cubs manager Joe Maddon told reporters after the game that Darvish was actually dealing with leg cramps and the veteran manager decided not to risk anything after Darvish's Tuesday comeback from the 10-day DL with flu-like symptoms.

"My concern always has been the health and safety of the guys," Maddon told the Chicago Tribune. "It was something I did not want to press or push, and it worked out well.”

Darvish through an interpreter said that he would try to get back to being healthy soon.

"In the next four days, I’ll eat a lot, train a lot and prepare to become 100 percent again,” he said.

In four innings, he gave up only three hits, one run, two walks, and five strikeouts.

For the season, he is still winless with a 0-3 record, 5.56 ERA, 42 strikeouts, and a high 1.53 WHIP.
