Cubs News: Maddon updates injury status of Javy Baez

by - Senior Editor -

Chicago Cubs second baseman Javy Baez was rounding first base to stretch out his double and injured his left hamstring area against the San Diego Padres on Thursday afternoon.

The team trainers helped him off the field and Chesny Young came into the game to replace him.

Baez spoke to reporters after the game about his injury.

"I'm completely fine, 100 percent," he said via Cubs.com's Carrie Muskat. "I got some treatment. The trainers were all over it (hamstring cramp) and everything is fine."

However, it appears that he is actually not 100 percent according to manager Joe Maddon.

"It's still there (hamstring issue) and it's still bothering him a little bit, so we're still trying to figure out exactly what's going on."

Baez will likely miss time with the injury and is not scheduled to play today or on Saturday.
