Cubs News: Pedro Strop to have surgery on his left knee |
The Chicago Cubs announced that reliever
Pedro Strop has a torn meniscus in his left knee after doing a MRI on Thursday.
He will have arthroscopic surgery on Friday and will have a recovery time of 4-6 weeks according to multiple reports. The good news for the Cubs is that there was no ligament damage to Strop's knee so he should be back before the end of the season. "I almost cried thinking I might miss the rest of the season," Strop said to reporters on Thursday evening. Strop has a 2.89 ERA with 56 strikeouts and an impressive 0.89 WHIP this season. Cubs reliever Justin Grimm has been called back to the majors to take Strop's roster spot. "He hurt his knee, and that's all I know right now," Cubs manager Joe Maddon said to reporters after last night's win. "It's really an unfortunate moment." Strop was injured on Wednesday night after sliding to his knee while fielding an infield grounder by Unel Escobar. Strop was helped off the field by the training staff in the 8th inning as he could not put any weight on his left leg. To make matters worse, Hector Rondon is currently sidelined with sore triceps.
