Report: Cubs 1st-rounder might return to LSU

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs selected LSU pitcher Alex Lange with the No. 30 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft.

However, things have become more complicated as Lange had an issue come up during his physical on Monday according to multiple reports.

"The sides continue to talk about a deal that would presumably be less than the slot bonus value of $2,184,300 for the No. 30 pick", league sources told FanRag Sports.

The Cubs and Lange's representatives have until five pm today to work out a deal or he will be headed back to LSU for his senior season. However, there is some leverage with the Cubs as Lange will have less negotiation room next season as a fourth-year player.

Lange was 10-5, 2.97 ERA, with 150 strikeouts and 48 walks during last season.

4pm CDT Update: Lange signed with the Cubs right at the deadline for 1.925 million.
