Report: Cubs agree to 2-year deal with free agent pitcher

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs and right-handed pitcher Steve Cishek have agreed to a 2-year deal according to multiple reports.

The 31-year old free agent will reportedly earn a salary in the $12-14 million range pending physical.

Last season, Cishek, who throws sidearm, had a 2.01 ERA in 49 appearances as a setup man for Seattle and Tampa Bay. He was lights out giving up just 26 hits (0.8 WHIP) in 44 innings pitched.

Cishek recorded 98 saves for the Mariners in three seasons as the closer in 2016 and 2013-14. He has pitched under new Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey and it appears that Hickey knew that Cishek is a pitcher they needed on the North Side.

With the additions of Cishek, Drew Smyly, and Brandon Morrow, the Cubs will have a new look and hopefully improved bullpen in 2018.
