Report: Cubs have picked new bench coach

by - Senior Editor -

The Chicago Cubs have been searching for their new bench coach since the departure of Dave Martinez to the Washington Nationals as their new manager.

However, it appears that the Cubs won't have to look far as they have decided on Brandon Hyde as their new bench coach.

According to MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal, the New York Mets offered Hyde a bench-coach job and the Cubs stepped up and gave him the same position to keep him.

Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer has confirmed the report of Hyde becoming the next bench-coach of the North Siders.

Hyde has been with the Cubs since 2014 as the bench coach for Rick Renteria but became the first base coach under Joe Maddon for the Cubs and now he will transition into being Joe Maddon's right-hand man in the dugout.

In the minors during his playing days, Hyde played over 200 games and hit .252 with 15 homers.
