Cubs News: Rizzo narrates heartfelt feature on Stoneman Douglas |
Cubs first baseman
Anthony Rizzo has his number retired for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas baseball team and is a proud member of his hometown.
During the tragic school shooting in February, Rizzo went home to help provide some emotional support for his community as well as giving a powerful speech at the school vigil. Rizzo is still involved with the school and recently narrated a video of the baseball team's difficult season post-shooting. The team played to honor the 17 victims of the tragic shooting. "When I think about February the 14th, of course, I think of great loss, but I also think of about community and friends, " Rizzo said in the video. "MY COMMUNITY AND MY FRIENDS. I'm honored to call myself a Stoneman Douglas alum and I couldn't be prouder of my former baseball team and the way they felt strength in each other." The team played 16 days after the shooting and eventually won the district title.
