Cubs News: Schwarber on adding Darvish: "It's definitely awesome"

Add Cubs outfielder Kyle Schwarber to the list of people that is excited about starter Yu Darvish to the North Side.

“This guy has five plus pitches, Schwarber said to the Chicago Tribune. "I’m sure we’re going to be open to using them all and let him do what he wants to do. Because his stuff is really good.”

He knows that Cubs management is doing what it takes to give this ballclub a chance to make it back to the World Series in 2018.

“It’s awesome,” Schwarber said. “It shows they want us to be the best team possible. To add another starting pitcher like (him), it just shows the amount of confidence in our team. We’ve got a good thing rolling, and we want to keep this going for as long as we can, and adding a guy like that obviously is going to help.”

Schwarber has been impressed with Darvish when he has faced him in the past.

"We all know who he is,” said Schwarber. “He’s been a great pitcher in this game for a while. You’ve got to be able to lock in because he has great stuff. You’ve just got to be able to get that pitch over the plate and try not to swing at the strictly ball stuff. And he’s really good at making his pitches look like strikes, and all of a sudden they’re balls.”

The addition of Darvish means that Jake Arrieta will be leaving Chicago but it's part of the business side of things.

“Being able to have Darvish fill those shoes there, it’s definitely awesome.”
