The Chicago Cubs won their National League Central division before getting bounced abruptly out of the playoffs in the Wild Card Series by the Miami Marlins.

It was a tough blow for a talented team under the helm of first-year manager David Ross.

President of Operations Theo Epstein held his year end-of-season press conference and believes it was a very successful rookie season by Rossy.

"What we saw, what we experienced, was a very successful first year for somebody who's going to be a great manager here for a long time," Epstein said. "We feel really good about having Rossy at the helm of this group, of any group moving forward.

Epstein is a big fan of how Ross handled the ballclub.

"He developed great trust with all the players. He was an oustanding leader of the coaching staff and of the group. He set high standards. He had the difficult conversations. I thought he saw the game extremely well. He took a bullpen that struggled early and played an important role in bringing it along to the point where it was a strength of the club.

"We're in extremely good hands with Rossy going forward. I know every player that he touched this year feels exactly the same way."

It should be an interesting 2021 season with Epstein and Ross trying to get the Northsiders to accomplish a deep playoff run.
