Vegas odds on Cubs reaching 2018 World Series |
When the Chicago Cubs won the 2016 World Series, the general consensus was that the young core of sluggers leading the charge for the North Siders would help the Cubs develop into a dynasty. However, evidently falling victim to the "What have you done for me lately?" fallacy, the Cubs have fallen out of favor in the eyes of Las Vegas oddsmakers.
With less-than-stellar 10-1 odds to win the 2018 Fall Classic, the Cubs are tied with the Boston Red Sox for just seventh-best in odds to win it all next season. The Dodgers, who defeated the Cubs in the 2017 NLCS, have the best chance, according to Vegas, boasting 5-1 odds. While the Cubs certainly struggled at times during the course of the 2017 season, showing age in the starting rotation and lack of reliability in the bullpen, the Cubs still sport that aformentioned key core of hitters that will have them primed to win it all for at least the next few seasons. Of course, the Vegas odds could very well change based on the progression of the offseason, but, if the recent ones are any indication, Cubs management has its work cut out for it to put the Cubs back into the driver's seat for winning it all. 2018 World Series
