WATCH: Almora, Jr., lays out for jaw-dropping diving catch

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Chicago Cubs center fielder Albert Almora, Jr., has made it a habit of his to serve up an amazing web gem throughout the course of this season. His latest highlight came against the St. Louis Cardinals in the night game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

In the top of the fourth, Cardinals catcher Francisco Pena lofted a blooper to shallow center field that Almora, Jr., hustled toward. Laying out for a headfirst dive, Almora, Jr., managed to snag the ball just before it hit the ground, tucking his glove underneath it to make the catch just in the nick of time.

The caught liner ended the inning and curtailed any chance of a two-out rally by the Cardinals. Almora, Jr., was fired up after the amazing catch, as were his teammates. The third-year outfielder seems well on his way to winning his first Gold Glove.
