WATCH: Baez hits game-tying homer that just clears center-field wall |
SAN FRANCISCO — With the third home run of the day for the Chicago Cubs, second baseman Javier Baez slugged a solo bomb that barely cleared the wall in center field to tie the San Francisco Giants at 4-4.
Giants center fielder Steven Duggar made a valiant attempt at catching the homer, but the ball skirted over his glove and into the seats. An eager fan also made a hearty attempt at catching the dinger and nearly interfered with Duggar in the process. Baez even hesitated when rounding second base, as if he was awaiting a fan-interference call. We were just thinking about how we enjoy watching @javy23baez hit home runs. ?? pic.twitter.com/cAfaouW4jU The 405-foot long ball marked Baez's 18th home run and 66th RBI of the season, both of which are team highs. The seventh-inning leadoff blast bodes well for Baez, who is set to compete in the Home Run Derby on Monday. Javier Baez (30) off LHP Tony Watson (5) - 105.2 mph, 31 degrees (405 ft Home Run)
