WATCH: Baez pulls off flashy double play |
CINCINNATI — Javier Baez is having himself some game against the Cincinnati Reds today. Entering in a bit of a hitting slump, Javy has gone 3-3 so far on the afternoon and skied a towering home run in the third inning for his National League-leading 38th RBI.
Baez also made his mark in the field, as he is prone to do. Manning shortstop today, Baez flashed the leather and put his wily defensive prowess on display by pulling off an incredible double play to end the fifth inning. Sliding on his knees behind second base to collect a hard-hit hopper hit up the middle by the Reds' Joey Votto, Baez then made a heads-up play by slapping second base with his glove and making a jump throw to first base to complete the double play. El Mago did a thing. #Cubs @WGNNews pic.twitter.com/ZBCuP2odxo Arguably the flashiest defensive player in baseball, Baez broke out his alter-ego of El Mago for that spectacular play, ending the inning in style.
