CHICAGO — For the second game in a row, the Chicago Cubs tabbed a first-inning home run to take an early lead over the Chicago White Sox. On Saturday, Cubs MVP candidate Javier Baez ripped a line drive that skirted over the wall in left field to put the Cubs up 2-0.
Cubs second baseman Daniel Murphy jacked an opening-inning homer on Friday, and Baez continued with that trend by hammering a 361-footer that flew off the bat at 104 miles per hour. Coming with Ben Zobrist on base, the two-run shot on a changeup left the yard on a rope, sailing out at a low launch angle of 20 degrees. Baez now has 34 dingers and 109 RBI on the year.
