SAN DIEGO — Fitting with the theme of the Chicago Cubs' West Coast road trip, the Cubs topped the San Diego Padres thanks to a significant defensive blunder that led to the winning run being scored.

In the top of the 10th, spark-plug second baseman Javier Baez hit a one-out infield single. Thereafter, the star Cubs infielder opted to steal second base. Baez, who was credited with his 18th steal on the swiping of second, was also able to take third base on a high throw by Padres catcher Austin Hedges that sailed into the outfield.

Then, San Diego center fielder Manuel Margot bobbled the ball when attempting to field it, enabling Baez to come home and score. Putting the Cubs up 5-4, Baez's adept base running, as well as the Padres' two errors, ultimately won the game for Chicago.
