WATCH: Baez tracks down foul ball, makes flashy catch |
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Starting at shortstop in the Chicago Cubs' Saturday night contest with the Washington Nationals, Javier Baez made an immediate impact on defense for the Cubs in the bottom of the first. Catching a popup in foul territory in the Nationals' first at-bat of the contest, Baez made a great play.
Tracking down the foul ball with a long run into foul territory down the left-field line, Baez beat Cubs left fielder Kyle Schwarber to the baseball and stuck his glove out for a flashy snag. Quite literally flashing the leather, Baez quickly snatched in his glove after making the rapid-fire catch to out Nationals shortstop Trea Turner. Backing into the partition separating the seats from the field for emphasis, Baez capped off his amazing play in style. Javy doesn't care where we list him on the lineup graphic. #ElMago pic.twitter.com/AiXLd5nQCY
