WATCH: Baez with laser throw for remarkable double play |
LOS ANGELES — Chicago Cubs sensation Javier Baez pulled off an impressive, yet unorthodox, double play in the bottom of the second inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Making quite the heads-up play at third base, Baez initially corralled a grounder from Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig and proceeded to catch Dodgers center fielder Cody Bellinger, who was on third base at the time, in a rundown. After tagging Bellinger out in the pickle, Baez noticed that Puig had rounded fairly far around first base, so he gunned a throw across the diamond. Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo proceeded to tag Puig out just before Puig could step onto the bag, thus completing the double play. Anywhere on the diamond, @javy23baez is an All-Star.
