WATCH: Baez with laser throw for remarkable double play

by - Senior Writer -

LOS ANGELES — Chicago Cubs sensation Javier Baez pulled off an impressive, yet unorthodox, double play in the bottom of the second inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Making quite the heads-up play at third base, Baez initially corralled a grounder from Dodgers right fielder Yasiel Puig and proceeded to catch Dodgers center fielder Cody Bellinger, who was on third base at the time, in a rundown.

After tagging Bellinger out in the pickle, Baez noticed that Puig had rounded fairly far around first base, so he gunned a throw across the diamond.

Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo proceeded to tag Puig out just before Puig could step onto the bag, thus completing the double play.
