CHICAGO — A few days after becoming the first Chicago Cubs catcher to ever homer at the All-Star Game, Willson Contreras picked up right where he left off in his first game since then. Following a day off on Thursday, Contreras was inserted back into the starting lineup on Friday and went yard early on.
WILLLLLSONNNN Contreras cuts into the Cardinals lead, following up his All-Star performance with a solo shot to left. Putting the Cubs on the scoreboard, Contreras drove a 93-mile-per-hour fastball from St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Jack Flaherty into the left-field bleachers. Contreras's eighth long ball of the year, the solo blast left the bat at 98 miles per hour and sailed 392 feet.
