CHICAGO — The primary storyline revolving around the Chicago Cubs' home series against the Philadelphia Phillies this week is the return of Jake Arrieta to Wrigley Field.

Despite not being in line to make a start against the Cubs in the three-game set, the ace was honored in his first trip to the Friendly Confines after signing with the Phillies in the offseason.

The 2015 National League Cy Young winner, who was an integral part of the Cubs becoming a World Series contender in the mid-2010s, was honored at the conclusion of the first inning with a special tribute.

A video detailing Arrieta's successful five-year tenure with the Cubs played on the video board beyond left field, inciting a raucous reaction from the fans that led to an Arrieta curtain call. The tribute was also released on the Cubs' social media accounts.

Getting a standing ovation, Arrieta appeared genuinely touched with the warm welcome given to him by the Wrigley fan base, as Cubs fans rightfully displayed their appreciation for the star pitcher that helped lead their team to its first World Series title in 108 years.
