WATCH: Heyward gives Cubs breathing room with two-run blast |
ST. LOUIS — Jason Heyward made quite an impact with his first hit in a series against the St. Louis Cardinals, a former team of his. The Chicago Cubs right fielder received the night off in the series opener on Friday. In Saturday's second installment, he jacked a two-run blast in the eighth inning to give the Cubs their largest lead of the game at 6-3.
A two-run blast to right off Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks, Heyward's fourth home run of the season traveled 410 feet into the Busch Stadium seats. Hicks, a known fireballer, was taken deep on a 99.1-mile-per-hour pitch, which is the fastest-thrown ball that Heyward has ever hit out. Coming on a sinker, the long ball had an exit velocity of 104 miles per hour and a launch angle of 23 degrees. Ben Zobrist, who reached base on an error in the previous at-bat, scored on the dinger.
