WATCH: Heyward makes best throw of season to gun down runner at third base |
ST. LOUIS — Chicago Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward has made a bevy of outstanding throws in his big-league career, but perhaps none of them have been as impressive as the one that he pulled off against the St. Louis Cardinals on Saturday.
On a two-out single by Marcell Ozuna, Jose Martinez attempted to make it to third base. However, Heyward had other ideas. After cleanly fielding the hit, Heyward threw a bullet to Ian Happ at third base for the tag out. The perfect throw was aided by Happ's excellent acting job. Happ acted as if he was not expecting a throw so as to not put Martinez on high alert. But Happ was quick to apply the tag after catching the dart from Heyward, leaving Martinez beside himself. Jason Heyward with an absolute laser to get the out at third.
