WATCH: Highlights of Cubs-Cardinals matchup with wacky play involving Heyward

by - Senior Writer -

ST. LOUIS — Falling 5-2 against the St. Louis Cardinals (52-51), the Chicago Cubs (60-43) scored on a couple of solo home runs hit by Javier Baez and Anthony Rizzo. As for the Cardinals, they scored five runs in the first five innings to coast to victory.

Arguably the most interesting play of the game was very close to being perhaps the best defensive play of Cubs right fielder Jason Heyward's career.

After jumping up and nearly pulling off a spectacular snag of a well-hit ball in the third inning, Heyward juggled with the baseball after it hit off the wall and somehow gathered it time to make a perfect throw back into the infield.

Rizzo then gunned a laser of a relay throw to the plate, but the Cardinals' Yadier Molina slide in safely and beat the tag for the first of five St. Louis runs scored on the night.
