WATCH: Highlights of Cubs-Nationals extra-innings thriller

by - Senior Writer -

WASHINGTON, D.C. — After hitting a pivotal double in the top of the 10th inning, Chicago Cubs (83-57) center fielder Albert Almora Jr., who went 2-5 at the dish, came home to score on an ensuing double by Cubs rookie sensation David Bote. Bote's lone hit of the night proved to be the game-winner, as the Cubs topped the Nats 6-4 in 10 innings.

Prior to Bote's clutch two-bagger, the Cubs produced several key plays en route to setting up the extra-innings victory. From infielder Javier Baez showing no fear when hustling around the basepaths to score from first on a two-out double to reliever Justin Wilson drawing two pivotal outs with a pair of runners in scoring position to prevent the Nationals from taking the lead, Chicago was rather clutch in its series-opening defeat of Washington.
