by - Senior Writer -

KANSAS CITY — Going 2-3 with three RBI, rookie Chicago Cubs (66-47) third baseman David Bote paced the Cubs to a 5-0 shutout win over the Kansas City Royals (34-79) on Tuesday. Bote's first-inning triple off the wall in right-center, which marked the first three-bagger of Bote's career, provided the Cubs with a lead that they held for the remainder of the game.

Bote accrued two RBI on the triple and picked up another RBI on a single to right that put the Cubs ahead 4-0 in the fifth frame. Both clutch hits came with two outs. Furthermore, Bote drew a one-out walk in the eighth and scored soon afterward on a sacrifice fly.
