WATCH: Highlights of Cubs' convincing win over Cardinals |
CHICAGO — Limiting the St. Louis Cardinals (49-48) to just two hits on the afternoon, the Chicago Cubs (57-39) held the Redbirds in check during the afternoon installment of a day-night doubleheader at Wrigley Field on Saturday. Led by middle infielders Javier Baez and Ben Zobrist, who went 3-4 and 4-4, respectively, the Cubs accrued nine hits overall and scored four runs in the seventh inning to effectively put away the Cardinals.
Serving as the third game of a five-game set, the 7-2 Chicago triumph provided the Cubs with a 2-1 lead in the series. It also marked Cubs starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood's first winning decision in nearly two and a half months, as he improved to 4-5 on the season by receiving the win.
