PITTSBURGH — After getting off to an 0-3 start in his first five starts out of the All-Star break, Chicago Cubs (70-50) left-hander Jon Lester finally returned to winning form in a solid outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates (61-61) on Thursday. Pitching six scoreless innings, in which he struck out eight, Lester impressed and garnered the win to improve to 13-5.

Taking a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run by left fielder Ian Happ, who was playing in his hometown of Pittsburgh, the Cubs held on tightly to their slight edge and shut out the Pirates for a 1-0 triumph. The Cubs are now 6-4 in their last 10 games and hold a 3.5-game lead in the National League Central.
