WATCH: Highlights of Cubs' win over Diamondbacks, including Baez's game-saving hit

by - Senior Writer -

CHICAGO — Earning their first win in three tries against the Arizona Diamondbacks (56-47) in their current four-game series, the Chicago Cubs (59-42) utilized a solid start by pitcher Jon Lester and a critical pinch-hit single by Javier Baez to top the D-backs 2-1 at the Friendly Confines.

After suffering a knee injury in Tuesday's game, Baez rode the bench for most of Wednesday's contest before coming in for what proved to be a decisive plate appearance in the eighth inning. Despite battling through obvious knee pain, Baez hustled to garner a single on an infield dribbler, which culminated in Tyler Chatwood, who pinch ran for Baez, scoring the winning run to ultimately provide the Cubs with a gutsy victory.
